RELAPSING POLYCHONDRITIS

Repapsing polychondritis is an infrequently recognised –througout not necesasarily uncommon-recurent systemic disease, characterised by episodic generally progressive inflammation and degeneration of cartilaginous tissue.  Ears , nose, larynx, trachea, and joints are commonly involved. Other tissues high in glycosaminoglycans can also be affected , resulting in ocular, audiovesibular, cardiovascular, neurologic, dermatologic and rarely renal clinical manifestations. The cause remains unknown, however experimental evidence strongly suggests an autoimmune pathogenesis. Relapsing polychondritis is often associated with other rheumatologic and autoimmune diseases,. The course and prognosis of the disease is variable
